Troubleshooting

Jibbigo does not correctly understand what I say

Speech recognition on a small mobile device can be challenging, so here are some methods you can try to improve the performance:

  • Adaptation mode: You can set Jibbigo to adapt to your voice. For an Apple device, adaptation mode can be turned on in the settings.
  • Speak close to the microphone.
  • Speak clearly, but continuously: Best performance can be achieved using short, concise sentences of 5-7 words. Try not to over-pronounce.
  • Try to limit the background noise:  People talking, music playing, even cars passing by will negatively impact the performance of the app.
  • Edit the remaining mistakes: The recognized sentence can be edited/corrected on the text keyboard, in case of a recognition error.
  • Use phrases and context:  Jibbigo is designed to work best using phrases. If you are speaking one word and not getting good results, try putting that word in a phrase.

Where I am using Jibbigo, background noise is unavoidable. What can I do?

Jibbigo works best in situations without a lot of noise. However, if noise is unavoidable, you can still use the keyboard input to get your translations! If there are phrases you say regularly, use the History function to play them to your listener without having to type them again. More detailed instructions can be found in our User Manuals. If you are on an Apple device and need to repeatedly translate a complex phrase, you can use a Text Shortcut to enter it quickly (note: link is to external site, unaffiliated with Jibbigo).

The in-app translators for the Apple version of Jibbigo Translator didn't download. How do I re-install?

The best option to try is to delete the app completely from your device and re-install it, making sure you have stable wifi when you do re-install. You won’t have to pay for your offline translators again. Tap and hold the Jibbigo app icon until it jiggles and the x appears. Tap the x and it will ask you if you want to delete this app. Say yes. Now, re-install the app from the app store. Once it is downloaded, you will need to ‘restore purchases.’ You can do this by going into Jibbigo Plus (orange bar at the top of the home screen.) From there, tap the 'gears' at the top right corner. This will take you to the settings and you'll see 'restore purchases.' Tap this (make sure you have a network connection when you do.) Go 'back' and you'll see a new menu item called "Your Purchases." From here, you can install your purchased translators.

I am having difficulties installing Jibbigo on my Android device

Jibbigo installation on Android is a bit more complex than on the iPhone.

  • Make sure you are on a device that meets the tech specs.
  • You do not need any connection to run Jibbigo once it is installed, but for the installation process, you must be connected via wifi.
  • The SD card should be mounted to the phone as normal. You should NOT be connected to your computer via USB.
  • The entire installation should not take more than 45 minutes. More detailed download instructions, including graphics, are in our Android User Manual.
  • If, after reviewing the user manual, you are still having difficulty, please email info@jibbigo.com. You will receive technical assistance within three business days.

Jibbigo runs down the battery on my iPhone

Because Jibbigo is self-contained and does not depend on remote servers for your translations, its files are large and it uses a fair amount of memory. This is more pronounced on Apple devices, where you do not truly quit an application until you close it out in multi-tasking. To preserve your battery, it is recommended to completely close out Jibbigo whenever you will not be using it for a while. To do this:

  • Tap the home button on your device once to close the Jibbigo screen and go to the home screen.
  • Then double-tap the home button, and the home screen will slide up to reveal the icons for all the apps you have open in multi-tasking.
  • Push and hold the Jibbigo icon down below in this multi-tasking panel. All icons will start to jiggle, and a red minus sign will appear in the top left hand corner of each.
  • Tap the minus sign for Jibbigo, and any other app you wish to close out.
  • Tap the home button once more to return to the regular home screen.
    •
